Great Finger Lakes Bicycle Tour, June 7-9, 2019
Candace and I participated in the 39th annual Great Finger Lakes Bicycle Tour, June 7-9, 2019. The tour headquarters is the Watkins Glen State Park Hidden Valley Group Camp, near Watkins Glen, NY.
We arrived mid afternoon Friday, set up our tent and then did the Sugar Hill Fire Tower Ride, a short ride with a lot of climb.There were several rides to choose from on Saturday and Sunday. We did “remote start” rides both days. On Saturday, a metric century from Dundee to Penn Yan to Geneva and back. Sunday was a 40 miler along the west side of Keuka Lake, and back along a ridge to the west of the lake - which meant there was a big climb away from the lake to “Italy Hill.”
The Southern Tier Bicycle Club puts on this ride and provides dinners on Friday and Saturday and breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday as well as activities on Friday and Saturday evenings.
After Sunday’s ride we returned to New Jersey.
The weather was perfect and it was a great weekend!
