Great Finger Lakes Bicycle Tour, June 7-9, 2013

On Friday, June 7, Jane and I drove to Watkins Glen State Park, Hidden Valley Group Camp, to participate in the Great Finger Lakes Bicycle Tour. The tour is put on by the Southern Tier Bicycle Club based in Binghamton, New York.

Arrival is on Friday afternoon; camping is in tents or cabins. The club provides catered dinners Friday and Saturday evenings and breakfasts Saturday and Sunday mornings.

There are short rides Friday night, an array of routes on Saturday, and several routes on Sunday. There are both road and off-road routes. There are guided hikes of the gorge and post ride activities such as a hula-hooping contest and a bonfire.

For Saturday, I decided to do the short “Senecuga” loop. (between Lakes Seneca and Cayuga - get it?). This is 70 miles. Unfortunately , I missed the jog to Burdett and also the jog to Route 89, so lost about 4 miles. I added a bit at the end by riding a little past the turn to the camp and wound up with 68.4 miles. Close enough!

On Sunday, Karen (organizer of the FANY Ride) and I rode Big Red (tandem trike) around Lake Keuka.
