Great Falls, October 29, 2023
October 28-30, Candace and I visited Doug and JoAnn in Reston Virginia. On the 29th, they took us to the Great Falls of the Potomac, a National Park. The Falls are where the Potomac drops several hundred feet in a short distance. At our visit the flow as quite low, so the water level was quite low. There were signs showing that the level could be high enough to fill the canyon in the photos below.
There were three overlooks which took you farther (but not very far) downstream as you went from one to the next.
We also saw a sign that said George Washington tried to build a canal with locks to get around the falls. It didn’t say how successful he was.
