Caltech 50th Reunion, May 17-22, 2018

Candace and I attended my 50th Caltech Reunion In mid May.  We flew out on Thursday and arrived in time for the President’s Reception, the Class of 1968 Reunion Photo and the Reunion Dinner.

On Friday, we did the Caltech Architectural Tour (the campus has greatly expanded since my student days) in the morning, the Half Century Club Luncheon, and toured the Huntington Estate in the afternoon before attending another Reunion Dinner.

Saturday, I attended the talks for Seminar Day, while Candace visited the Getty Museum. That evening Tom Soifer and his wife Mary Anna hosted a very nice dinner for the class of 68 Ricketts house alums at their home in Altadena. Tom was one of my roommates for sophomore, junior, and senior years.

Things were winding down Sunday, so we walked around Pasadena (near City Hall) in the morning and attended the Ricketts house “Beer and Brats” barbecue at lunch time. A lot of Ricketts is the same, but a lot has changed. No Pot in the Courtyard anymore. (That’s an actual pot, not a drug!) After the barbecue we headed out to Palm Springs where Candace had found us a B&B .

Monday, we did a bicycle (bicycles provided by the B&B) tour pf Palm Springs. Candace was particular interested in the modern (that is late 50s, early 60s) architecture. In the afternoon we drove around Palm Springs and visited the art museum and the airplane museum.

Tuesday was our last day. On the way back to LAX, we had breakfast with my sister in law Julie in Banning. She’s as active as ever.

You’d think we’d have a ton of photos. Not so. We just weren’t very good about taking pictures. Below are the best of what we have. Clicking on a photo below brings up a larger version. You can also activate a slide show.
