FANY Ride, Day 4, July 23, 2014

Wednesday took us from Auburn to Hamilton. It turned out to be a long day. The route was almost 80 miles but the real problem was severe thunderstorms!

I had breakfast at the Skaneateles Bakery, about 12 miles from the start. Then lunch at the Elm Street Cafe in Tully, about 36 miles from the start. At 55 miles, I stopped in Cazenovia for a snack which was a glass of lemonade and a milk shake. I was just leaving when the rain started. I decided to go back inside for a beer! This was a good thing as the rain turned out to be a severe thunderstorm. Once the storm subsided, I got back on the bike and made it to the Blue Canoe Grill, about 64 miles out, before the next squall line started to come through.

There were eight other FANY riders there with me. I had another beer! There was contact with the SAG drivers who were getting impatient with us trying to wait out the storm. Finally, the word was: we’re coming to get you whether you want us to or not. So I left. By this time the rain wasn’t that heavy and I’ve ridden in much worse!

I followed the cue sheet (except for a missed turn) for 78.6 miles and 4486 feet of climb.
